Youth from the North Decatur High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently participated in a weekend leadership conference in Minneapolis.
Attendees participated in training and sessions that challenged, informed and motivated members and their advisers to become leaders through FCCLA. Along with more than 2,500 other members and chapter advisers, North's FCCLA chapter adviser, Joyce Crane, accompanied five members to the meeting. The attending members were: Kera Davis, Lauren Mirick, Megan Asher, Erica Stevens and Andrew Robbins.
The "MADE: Making A Difference Everywhere" theme was reinforced in the Opening General Session by guest speaker, Jeff Yalden. He inspired attendees with his motivational message, "About Life," and encouraged them to make the most of their powerful leadership potential.
Saturday’s agenda included training in FCCLA’s peer education programs Student Body and Financial Fitness.
Keynote speaker Dr. Adolph Brown, III closed out the meeting by addressing how good character and decisions are critical every day.
"I really liked most of the motivational speakers at the Conference, especially Dr. Brown," said Davis. "We had such a great time visiting the Mall Of America and listening to all the motivational messages. I wish it didn't have to end."
Minneapolis is one of four nationally sponsored training conferences this fall. The National Cluster Meetings are designed to allow local students and teachers to take advantage of high-quality leadership training opportunities. Meetings will also be held in Atlanta, Buffalo and Denver.
