Chamber hosting public legislative update

Greensburg — A legislative update, organized by the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 and will feature the four Indiana legislators serving Greensburg and Decatur County.

The event is open to the public.

Indiana State Senator Johnny Nugent, (R - Senate District 43), whose territory now encompasses Greensburg and most of Decatur County, will be joined by State Senator Jean Leising (R – Senate District 42, Fugit Township in Decatur County), Representatives Cindy Ziemke, (R- House District 55) and Representative Randy Frye (R - House District 67) at the event. Both Ziemke and Frye serve portions of Decatur County.

The event will take place in the community room at Decatur County REMC, 1430 W. Main St., Greensburg.

“We are very excited to be able to arrange this program so that members of the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce can learn more about what is happening during this current long session of our elected state officials,” Chamber President Diane Hart-Dawson said. “Up until last year, Greensburg and Decatur residents were served by two officials, one in the Senate and one in the House. However, with redistricting, these four elected officials now cover portions of Decatur County and we are happy that we were able to arrange it that they will be at this one event.”

While this event is a Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce event for its members, the Chamber believes it is important that all citizens be informed about legislation being considered at the state level, therefore, the event will be open to the general public, not just Chamber of Commerce members.

Doors open at 8 a.m. and the program will get underway at 8:30 a.m. Each legislator will be given approximately 10 to 15 minutes to share their views and talk about the current legislative session at the Indiana Statehouse and that will be followed by questions from the audience.

The event is scheduled to end at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The Decatur County Family YMCA has been able to secure a donation to provide bagels and fruit for this event. Coffee and water will also be made available.
