The Greensburg Community High School (GCHS) Drama Department will host its annual spring production, the comedic murder mystery “Get a Clue,” starting at 7 p.m., Feb. 15 and 16, in the GCHS auditorium.
The group will host a special, first-ever “dinner theatre” production of the play, starting at 5 p.m., Feb. 17, in the Greensburg Elementary School cafetorium.
Tickets for the Feb. 15 and 16 staging are available at the door only for $5, with children 5-and-under admitted free.
Tickets for the Feb. 17 dinner matinee are available through 3:30 p.m., Feb 8, only for $10. Those tickets can be purchased by calling director Angie Ballard at 663-7176, ext. 1052.
Ballard told the Daily News she’s extremely excited about the entire production, but especially so for the Feb. 17 dinner theatre show.
“We’ve never tried anything like this,” she explained. “It was my daughter Macy’s idea (17-year-old Macy Ballard is in the production as well). Frequently, at the professional dinner venues, the production is a murder-mystery, and Macy thought it would be really neat to try to stage one with ‘Get a Clue.’ It’s definitely the right kind of play.”
Ballard stressed that her group won’t profit from any of the productions.
“We’re not making any money off it,” she said. “So we invite the community to come out and enjoy a great show for a great price. If you come on Sunday, you get the show plus great food. And you can’t beat the $10 price.”
Sunday’s menu, according to Ballard, will consist of salad, homemade rolls, chicken breast, cheesy potatoes, green beans, dessert, and drinks, all prepared by GCHS foods and nutrition teacher Deb Sellers.
“Deb is a terrific cook,” Ballard added. “I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.”
According to the show’s official playbill, “Get a Clue” is a “delirious comedy-murder mystery,” with “a motley crew of suspicious characters,” who “hunt for clues regarding the [play’s] murder.”
More, the playbill states, the production's lineup of quirky, colorful characters also includes “a scheming butler and maid, an insane lawyer, a gold-digging socialite, two phony psychics, a complete loser, two cops and some nosy and creepy neighbors.”
The play “pokes fun at everything from ‘Austin Powers’ to ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?,’” and “delivers laughs by the barrel.”
