Man arrested for battery of pregnant girlfriend

Greensburg — A Greensburg man faces felony charges following an alleged violent attack on his girlfriend in January.

Larry Eugene Furlow, 29, was arrested Monday and charged with battery, a class “C” felony, and strangulation, a class “D” felony.

According to police reports filed in January, Furlow and his girlfriend, identified in police reports as Amber N. Fixmer, whom Furlow knew was three months pregnant, got into a verbal confrontation.

The verbal confrontation became physical when Furlow began throwing and breaking items in the apartment, of which there is allegedly photographic evidence.

Furlow struck his girlfriend in the mouth, causing her to bleed. He then grabbed her by the neck and choked her.

The victim attempted to flee to the bathroom, but Furlow forced his way inside, where he proceeded to choke her again and put his hand over her mouth. Furlow is alleged to have told his girlfriend that if she continued screaming he would kill her.

Fixmer attempted to call 911, but Furlow is alleged to have taken her cellphone and destroyed it.

Eventually, the victim was able to run away to a neighbor’s apartment and call 911.

Furlow, in the meantime also fled, taking the victim's car. He could not be located at the time of the January report. The responding officer, Greensburg Police Department Lieutenant Wayne Shake, recommended in his report that Furlow be arrested on charges of battery, criminal confinement, strangulation, and interfering with a 911 call.

The responding officer stated several times in the report that he witnessed physical evidence of Furlow’s assault on the victim. The assault was documented in photographs.

No one was available from the Greensburg Police Department for comment on the story Tuesday.

Furlow is currently being held without bond in the Decatur County Jail, awaiting a court appearance.
