Community “Stars” to dance at Aspen Place

Greensburg — Aspen Place Health Campus will stage its “Dancing with the Stars” event at 7 p.m., Feb. 21, at Aspen Place, located at 2320 North Montgomery Road.

Aspen Place Community Services Representative Erin Allen told the Daily News that, due to an unforeseen community-wide tragedy in December, the event was rescheduled.

“We just didn’t feel like it was the right time to hold such an event,” Allen said in January, referring to a plane crash that claimed the lives of prominent community members Don and Barb Horan, and Stephen and Denise Butz. “The entire community was grieving, and our Dancing with the Stars is designed to be a happy occasion.”

In speaking with the Daily News about the event last week, Allen remained upbeat.

“Dancing with the Stars is sure to provide lots of entertainment and fun,” she said.

The dance card of Aspen Place’s version of the popular ABC show will consist of local community leaders and public servants, including Greensburg Chief of Police Stacey Chasteen, Greensburg Fire Chief Scott Chasteen, Main Street Greensburg Executive Director Bryan Robbins, Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) Board of Trustees Chair Toni Collins and Greensburg Community Schools Drama and Coral Director Heather Simpson — among several others.

The “celebrity” judge panel will likewise consist of local community leaders: DCMH Director of Community Relations David Fry, DCMH Vice President of Support Services Robin Meyer, GCS Superintendent Tom Hunter, Decatur County Sheriff Greg Allen, and Greensburg-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jeff Emsweller.

The event will include snacks and drinks, with beer and wine served for $1 each, Allen said, pointing out that the dancing itself begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $5.

“At this point,” Allen said, “anyone who wants to get tickets needs to call and reserve as quickly as they can. We’re almost sold out, and I want to make sure everyone can get a seat.”
