Sheriff's Department reports 13 slide-offs Thursday

Greensburg — Thursday night saw a severe drop in temperature, causing slick roads and 13 subsequent vehicle slide-offs, Sheriff Greg Allen told the Daily News Friday afternoon.

Allen said the up and down temperatures are estimated to last another five weeks.

In the meanwhile, the sheriff offered some sage driving advice for dangerous road conditions: “Slow down and pay attention to the roadways.”

The flurries can simultaneously cause the roads to ice over, while also hiding the ice, Sheriff Allen noted.

Slide-offs are more likely to happen when a driver is traveling too fast and is not alert to his or her surroundings.

The sheriff expressed relief that no one was injured in Thursday's multiple incidents.
