Greensburg —
Friday afternoon, Martha Schopmeyer of the Monsanto Fund and Decatur County Farmer David Miers formally presented checks to the Decatur Community Foundation (DCCF) and the Decatur County Family YMCA.
Each received a check for $2,500.
Miers, as Decatur County winner of the 2013 Monsanto’s America’s Farmers Grow Communities contest, selected the two organizations himself.
The money, Miers said, is awarded to non-profit, AG-related organizations which contribute to, support and develop Decatur County agriculture and agricultural education.
In previous years, for instance, awards have gone to help fund FFA-related scholarships at the area’s three high schools, Miers said.
Miers specified that the DCCF money be put in organization’s AG Field of Interest Fund. He specified that the YMCA support the organization’s Invest in Youth Campaign.
