Individuals who have received letters requesting homeowners send money to acquire a copy of the deed to their residence should contact the Indiana Attorney General’s office, Decatur County Recorder Denise Zeigler said.
Earlier this week, the recorder’s office was notified of a letter sent to multiple residents throughout the Decatur County community. The letter requests that homeowners send $80 or more to a company named in the letter in order to obtain a copy of their property deed. A copy of one’s deed can be purchased at the recorder’s office for $1 per page. This incident, a scam intended to prey on homeowners unaware their deeds are available locally and at a very small cost, is being investigated by the Indiana Attorney General.
Anyone receiving these letters is urged to call the Attorney General’s office at 317-234-2354.

Both Decatur County residents elected to donate several inches of their hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that fashions hairpieces for children suffering long-term hair loss.
