Car crashes into Sizemore optometry

Greensburg — There were no injuries late Tuesday afternoon when a Greensburg woman drove a car through the storefront of Sizemore Family Vision Care at 601 West Main Street.

Lucille Collins, 63, told the Daily News on scene that she was preparing to visit the adjacent Smoker's Host Discount Tobacco Shop, also located at 601 Main, but was first attempting to “straighten her car out” in a parking space directly in front of Sizemore Family Vision Care.

The Sizemore building sustained major damage.

Collins stated she thought she was in reverse and hit the gas, sending the car over the curb and into the Vision Care storefront.

Collins, who doesn’t own the late-1990s-model Oldsmobile Achieva SC she was driving, was visibly shaken.

Greensburg Police Department Sgt. Brendan Bridges, who led the investigation, said the car is owned by Allen Herbert of Ripley County.

Inside the Sizemore building, business owner Dr. Carrie Sizemore, OD, was facing the car when it rammed into her shop.

“I was here with patients,” Sizemore explained, “a family of four, with two little girls. The little girls were really shaken up.”

Sizemore paused, before adding, “I was really shaken up.”

Sizemore’s boyfriend, Todd Schlotter, was also in the building when the car hit. He was in a position to have seen the accident, but wasn’t looking when the car hit, though he said he heard it.

“I thought a bomb went off,” he said. “I looked up and there was a car sitting where the doors were supposed to be.”
