GECOM Corporation named “Company of the Year” by United Fund

Greensburg — GECOM Corporation, of Greensburg, was named “Company of the Year” by Decatur County United Fund at the 2013 United Way and Funds Volunteer of the Year Awards Banquet held March 7 at the Fountains Banquet and Conference Center, Carmel.

GECOM has long been a supporter, both corporately and employee-based, of the Decatur County United Fund. They regularly support the United Fund campaign and auction, and recruit a team of volunteers to take part in the Day of Caring. But GECOM’s charitable arm stretches well beyond the UF.

Over the years, GECOM Corporation has contributed to the needs of many organizations and events within the Greensburg community, including the Decatur County Family YMCA, the Sports Complex, Decatur County Community Foundation, Cheer Fund, Relay for Life, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Shop with a Cop, and much more.

As a corporate and employee-based United Fund supporter, GECOM Corporation continues to do great things with the help of great individuals. As part of their 25th anniversary celebration, GECOM awarded a $10,000 Community Gift to the United Fund. As good stewards, the United Fund along with a GECOM representative pursued several initiatives to benefit individuals in the community. Initiative work will include partnering with Advocates for Children to recruit CASA volunteers, and to enhance training and educational materials for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. In addition: expand the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) focus at Carousel Play and Learn Center, and also provide an alternative spring break day camp themed around healthy living for Girl Scouts.

Joane Cunningham, Executive Director of Decatur County United Fund, noted, “GECOM remains dedicated to good corporate citizenship and helping to improve the quality of life in Greensburg.  On behalf of the United Fund Board of Directors and the Decatur County community, it is our honor to recognize GECOM Corporation as our 2012 Company of the Year.”

With a little encouragement from her teacher and from Triple R Owner Debbie Richards, GJHS Eighth Grader Jewel Clarke overcame her fear and saddled up, taking her first horseback ride Wednesday afternoon. Twenty-three-year-old rescued horse Willie is an old hand with kids by now and made a perfect partner for Clarke’s first go in the stirrups.
