Hammersmith named tourney MVP

Greensburg — The North Decatur boys basketball team bowed out of the Sectional Tournament Saturday night.

North Decatur fell to Switzerland County 62-52 in the South Ripley Sectional 45 tournament. After beating Southwestern (Hanover) and host South Ripley in overtime Friday, the Chargers were on the verge of completing a remarkable upset tournament championship Saturday. North led on several occasions, including by two points at halftime. However, the Pacers were too much for the Chargers in the second half despite North's comeback efforts.

The Chargers finish the season at 6-17.

Senior John Hammersmith was the tournament Most Valuble Player and also scored a career-high 32 points in the title game. He scored 83 points in the three games, averaging  27.7 per game.

A complete story will be published online and also in Tuesday’s print edition.
