Greensburg —
The Greensburg 8A boys basketball team visited Jennings County Thursday and fell 51-29.
“I thought we played much better than the game Tuesday and are showing improvement every day in practice,” said head coach Andrew Ruble.
Greensburg was down seven points after the first and 18 at half. Despite struggling in the second quarter, the Pirates stayed with it and were only outscored by three in the second half.
“This was a very good Jennings County team and I am proud of how hard our kids played,” said Ruble.
Dillon Merritt with led Greensburg with eight points, Trevor Reynolds scored five, Louis Moore four, and Greg Schroeder and Chase Hogg three apiece. Sam Slusher, Brent Bowling, and Kamron Sims each added two.
Connersville tops Pirates
The 8A Pirates fell to host Connersville 41-32. The Pirates were up two points at half and tied going into the fourth quarter, but could not quite close the game with a win.
I thought our kids played very unselfish and moved the ball to our open guys better tonight,” said coach Andrew Ruble. “The downfall for the Pirates was the 25 turnovers and shot 6/14 from the charity stripe. When you look at a game that is so close in the fourth quarter and leaving a potential eight free points on the board, and many shot attempts not taken due to turnovers is a tough way to lose it. The kids did a great job of keeping their composure and played with a great deal of energy.
Trevor Reynolds scored a team-high 12 points on 5/8 shooting, Dillon Merritt scored 8 points with a three, Chase Hogg 5 with a trey, Greg Schroader 4, Louis Moore 2, and Chancey Holdsworth chipped in 1 point. The Pirates visit Greendale on Tuesday with tipoff at 5:30.
