Junior high Pirate trio wrestle at state

New Castle — Three wrestlers from Greensburg Junior High School competed, Sunday, in the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA) Middle School State Championship Tournament in New Castle, Ind.

The best wrestlers in the state of Indiana in grades six through eight were eligible to attend. Eighth grader Jacob Ison competed in the 140-lb weight class. Dylan Cain, also an eighth grader, competed in the 195-pound class. The third competitor from Greensburg was DJ Koors, a sixth grader, competing at 220 pounds.

This was an exciting day of wrestling, with more than 700 wrestlers in attendance. Dylan Cain was the highlight for Greensburg, finishing fourth in his weight class. Cain finished the day with a 4-2 record. Five of his six matches were against other wrestlers that finished in the top eight of the weight class. Cain received a medal from the Indiana State Wrestling Association (ISWA) for this accomplishment.

The junior high wrestlers will be active throughout the remainder of the month, next competing Thursday (tonight) at the Greensburg junior high against Sunman-Dearborn. The junior Pirates return to the mats next Thursday, Feb. 21 at Switzerland County at 5:30 p.m., then Saturday, Feb. 23 at New Castle at 9 a.m.
