Jeffersonville —
The Greensburg varsity wrestling team will send two wrestlers out to represent the Pirate grapplers this Saturday at Semi-State.
Greensburg had sent eight wrestlers to the Jefferson Regional Saturday, and two of them will compete in Saturday’s Evansville Reitz Semi-State.
Freshman Brandon Butz placed fourth in the 113-pound weight class. He advanced to semi-state by pinning Jordan Gray of Eastern (Pekin).
Junior Drew Neisius finished fourth in the 195-pound class. He advanced to semi state with a pin over Nicholas Lynch of New Albany.
“I’m very pleased with those two moving on, especially Brandon,” said head coach Matt Cochran. “He wrestled extremely well today, and is very deserving of going on. Drew also did a good job to advance.”
Three other wrestlers placed as alternates, reserving them a spot if one of the top four wrestlers cannot compete.
Junior Colten Black placed fifth in the 182-pound class, making him a first alternate. Junior Justin Dance finished sixth in the 160-pound class, and sophomore Nathan Hayes finished sixth at 285 pounds. Those finishes reserve them in the Semi-State as second alternates.
Other wrestlers were defeated in the first round and did not make it out of the regional. Competing in their final matches of the season were sophomore Jordan Smiley (126), junior Joe Buening (152), and junior Matt Scheumann (220).
