The Greensburg cross country teams hosted a four-way meet Tuesday afternoon. The Pirates ran against South Decatur, East Central and Hauser in hot and humid weather conditions.
The East Central girls won their race, scoring 19 points. South Decatur finished second overall with 40 points. Greensburg and Hauser fielded incomplete teams. Julia Thomas of East Central won the girls' race with a time of 21 minutes, 53 seconds.
"Overall the kids ran well today, but in the heat it was hard for them to drop times," said South head coach Bethany Fromer. "I was proud of them, though. We will continue to work hard the rest of the week at practice and into next week after Labor Day."
South's Rylie Buening finished fourth overall, clocking a time of 25:10 to lead the Lady Cougars.
Kristy Hamilton finished second for South, clocking a 26:07. Shelbi Baker placed 14th overall (29:03). Julie Mapes clocked a 32:46 for 19th, while Emily Mapes marked a 34:58 for 21st.
Greensburg's Tori Helms placed fifth with a time of 25:20. Erin Hamilton finished seventh in 25:52. Ericka Carman placed 10th with a clocking of 27:39, while Laura Kamman clocked a 28:07 for 11th place.
Hauser's Travis Pittman won the boys race with a time of 17:20. Hauser's boys won with 36 points.
The Greensburg boys scored 50 points for third place. Ian Frink finished third overall with a time of 18:24. Ethan Sebastian took sixth, running in 19:23. Colin Evans clocked a 19:44 for ninth place. Jay Weber took 17th in 20:29. Derek McIntyre placed 23rd in 23:29, while Ben Meadows clocked a 23:37 for 25th. Christian Fox rounded out Greensburg's running with a 24:19, at 26th place.
Cody Wamsley led South with a time of 20 minutes even, good for 14th place. Nolan Allen clocked a 20:43 for 18th place. Evan Kirchner finished in 24:30 for 27th.
Brandon Overlock ran his personal best on the season with a 25:53, while Blake Bennett clocked a 28:38.
South's next meet is not until next Thursday against North Decatur.
Greensburg next races at East Central next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
