Charger harriers celebrate Senior Night

Greensburg — The North Decatur cross country teams both beat Knightstown as the Chargers celebrated Senior Night Tuesday at North.

"Tonight was our 'Senior Night,' so it was great to get two wins," said North head coach Scott Johnson.

The boys cross country team defeated Knightstown 21-40.

Four-year runner Anthony Bedel ran a winning race in his final home outing. Bedel clocked a 19:24.

"Anthony Bedel has run all four years and he is a great leader and captain," said Johnson. "He will walk away at the end of the year with four varsity letters in cross country and is the current course record-holder at North Decatur. He has had a great career. Paul Badgley and Marissa Hipps both are great seniors, leaders, and captains as well. We would not be enjoying any of the success we are experiencing without all of these great seniors."

Other North boys results:  3. Eric Moorman 20:17; 4. Brady Holloway 20:56; 6. Michael Metz 21:58; 7. Paul Badgley 22:03; 8. Kaleb Kramer 22:20; 11. Bryce Hermesch 23:55; 12. Haejun Lee 23:59; 13. Corden Simmonds 28:01.

The boys are now 7-1 on the season.

The Lady Chargers edged Knightstown 23-33.

North junior Veronica Yager led all runners with a 24:34. Katie Stevens followed with a third-place time of 25:13.

Other girls results:  5. Celeste Pacilio 28:23; 6. Erica Wilson 29:36; 8. Emily Scott 30:00; 10. Marissa Hipps 31:22.

The girls are now 6-2 on the season.

North also recognized its senior manager and its foreign exchange student from South Korea.

"Both are very valuable contributors to our team," said Johnson. "Kyle Wallpe, our manager for the past three years, makes the best Gatorade in the state!"

The Chargers next race at Morristown Thursday (today), which is a rain out make-up.
