French Lick —
The North Decatur football team overcame two double-digit deficits in the second half and took a fourth-quarter lead before falling to Springs Valley 40-35 in Friday's first round of the sectional tournament.
The game came down to the final play as Springs Valley came up with an interception to end a Charger drive.
The Blackhawks led all of the first half until North came back in the second half with long runs by junior quarterback Brock Ricke and senior Jason Kirchhoff for scores.
Ricke scored three touchdowns, including a long breakaway score that put North up 28-26 in the fourth quarter. Kirchhoff had pulled North two within one score earlier with a run that covered half the field, striking less than a minute into the second half.
Untimely penalties and a fumble late in the game made it an uphill battle for the Chargers in the second half.
North ends its season at 6-4, while Springs Valley advances to 5-5.
Milan defeated Edinburgh 31-0 in other sectional action.
