Pirates defend sectional crown over Madison

Greensburg — The Greensburg boys basketball team defended it sectional championship with a 69-52 win over Madison Saturday night.

Greensburg improves to 22-1 on the season and will play Evansville Bosse (19-5) Saturday in the Washington Regional.

The win marks Greensburg's third title in four seasons, and clinched them against three different opponents (Batesville in 2010 and Rushville last season).

The Pirates trailed early and most of the first half Saturday until going on a run in the second half to charge ahead for good.

Greensburg junior Bryant McIntosh led the Pirates with 20 points. Junior Sean Sellers recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Sellers shot 13-for-18 (72 percent) at the foul line, and shot 27-for-32 (84 percent) in the three sectional games. Sellers needed 51 points going into the tournament to reach the school's career scoring record of 1,226, and is just four points away from tying it.

The Pirates will face the Bulldogs in the first regional game, which tips off at 10 a.m.

Brownstown Central will play Vincennes Lincoln in the second regional game.
