Greensburg Wins Conference Opener Saturday, 57-49

South Dearborn — The Greensburg boys basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 57-49 win over Eastern Indiana Athletic conference rival South Dearborn Saturday night on the road.

“I’m proud of the kids for going down to South Dearborn and getting our first conference win on the road,” said Greensburg head coach Stacy Meyer.

The Pirates used a stifling defense in the first half, holding the Knights to 11 points in the first 16 minutes of play.

“I was very pleased with our first half defense,” said Meyer. “We did a tremendous job on the defensive end.”

South Dearborn played much better in the second half, scoring 38 points after the break.

Greensburg shot just 13-for-25 (52 percent) from the foul line. Meyer said most of the misses were in the fourth quarter where Greensburg could have extended the lead. Instead, the Knights outscored the Pirates 26-21 in the fourth quarter.

“We need to close games,” said Meyer. “That’s one thing we need to work on.”

Leading Greensburg on the stat sheet was senior Greg Dougan with 16 points. Junior Logan Barker tallied 11 points, while senior Adam Wilson recorded 10. Four other seniors notched scores for the Pirates. Shawn Burcham scored eight, Ty Miller scored six, Andrew Dougan added four and David Dougan chipped in two.

Joel Scudder led the Knights with 15 points.

Scoring by Quarters:

GB - 13 10 13 21 -- 57

SD - 4 7 12 26 -- 49

The Greensburg junior varsity team won by 10 points in the first game. The final score was unavailable at the time The Daily News went to press.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge of next week,” said Meyer.

Greensburg will remain in EIAC action this week with a home game against Lawrenceburg Friday night and a road game against Batesville Saturday night. Both weekend games follow the 6 p.m. JV games.
