Greensburg — The Greensburg Daily News Co-Athletes of the Week are Greensburg senior Chas Lecher and North Decatur senior Hayley Hayden.
Senior Chas Lecher, Greensburg Center
Lecher, the Lady Pirates’ 6-foot-1 post player, led her team to a 58-45 win over Jennings County Saturday. She led all scorers with 20 points, including 13 in the first half, and collected nine rebounds.
Lecher dominated East Central Wednesday night at home, overwhelming the Trojans to help Greensburg win its Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference opener. After scoring 11 points in the first half, Lecher poured on 18 more points to finish with a season-high 29. She notched a double-double with 14 rebounds and added four blocks on defense.
Lecher has shown that she is not afraid to score from nearly anywhere on the court. She also shoots well from the perimeter, having tallied multiple 3-pointers in Greensburg’s first two weeks.
Senior Hayley Hayden, North Decatur Guard
The 5-foot-4 Hayden plays point guard for the Lady Chargers. After struggling in its season opener, North nearly upset defending sectional champion Batesville on the road and followed up with a dominating win over Oldenburg Academy Monday night.
Keying the Chargers’ home-opening win was Hayden, who bounced back from a scoreless game against OA. She exploded for 10 points in the first half, including eight in the first quarter alone. Her athleticism prevailed as she scored a flurry of points off turnovers to help North capture a lead. She also delivered in the clutch, hitting a jumper as the first half expired and a 3-pointer to beat the third-quarter buzzer.
When the game clock expired, Hayden totaled 16 points to give upcoming opponents a glimpse of her potential. She shot 7-for-8 overall, including 2-for-2 behind the 3-point line. She also led her team with four assists and four steals.
For leading their teams to dominating victories in front of their respective home crowds, Chas Lecher and Hayley Hayden are this week’s Greensburg Daily News co-athletes of the week.
