Greensburg Daily News
The Greensburg boys basketball team improved to 18-1 on the season Wednesday night with a 62-39 road win over South Ripley.
The Raiders’ size inside did not slow down a Pirate attack that saw a 19-point halftime lead and three players in double figures overall.
Greensburg led 16-10 after trailing early in the first quarter, then led 36-17 at the break.
Highlighting the third quarter were 3-pointers by juniors Macy Holdsworth and Bryant McIntosh, and senior Tyler Burcham added four points in the third period to help his team take a 51-30 lead into the final eight minutes.
Sophomore Ryan Welage scored seven points in the final quarter on his way to a game-high 17 points.
McIntosh followed with 15 points, including two triples, while junior Sean Sellers added 14 points and seven rebounds. Sellers scored eight in the first quarter alone.
Holdsworth added eight points, while Burcham and senior Shane Ploeger each chipped in four.
The Pirates shot 5-for-9 from the stripe, with Sellers shooting 2-for-2.
Trey Sparks led South Ripley (13-5) with 16 points, while 6-foot-7 senior Cody Federmann added 10.
The Greensburg junior varsity basketball team defeated South Ripley 43-31 in the first game, improving to 16-3 on the season with one game remaining.
A pair of juniors led the JV Pirates. Tom Lawrence scored 14 points and Tye Fleetwood scored 12. Drew Foster added eight, while Bryce Bennett chipped in three. Scoring two apiece were Peyton Buening, Riley Burkert and Brad Wilson.
Greensburg will take a week to prepare for the season finale, a home game Friday against EIAC rival East Central. A win would give the Pirates the outright conference championship. Greensburg will also honor seniors Riley Billieu, Tyler Burcham and Shane Ploeger on Senior Night Friday.
