The Greensburg girls varsity basketball team overcame a second-half threat from host South Dearborn for a 40-39 conference win Thursday night.
The victory marked the third in the Lady Pirate’s past four games. Greensburg has limited the opposition to 50 points or less 13 times, and 40 points or less six times.
Freshman Taylor McIntosh led the visitors with 13 points. Senior Shelby Ward hit a trio of 3-pointers for nine points, one point off her season high. Sophomore Abbey Denton followed with eight points, while senior Heidi Dance scored a season-high seven. Sophomore Jessica Banaschak chipped in three points and 10 rebounds.
Greensburg improves to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference.
Greensburg’s junior varsity team fell 41-30 in the first game.
Kalynne Asche led Greensburg’s JV with 10 points, while Kasey Moeller, Emma Wolter and Megan Schmidt scored five points apiece. Allie Geis and Sydney Wettering scored two apiece, and Maddy Schroeder chipped in one.
In Tuesday’s 68-63 loss to Hauser, Banaschak led Greensburg with 19 points. McIntosh scored 13, while Ward tallied a season-high 10 points. Denton scored eight, senior Clare Owens scored seven, Keauna Schultz added four and senior Hayley Williams chipped in two.
