The Greensburg boys and girls swimming teams split their past two meets, with each team winning a meet in the past six days.
The Aqua Pirates hosted Indian Creek Thursday and earned a split against the Braves. The Greensburg girls were close 89-81 winners over the Braves, while the boys were second in a 101-70 result.
The Lady Pirates tallied two individual event wins and two relay wins.
The girls started with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Morgan Stagge, co-captain Molly Oesterling, Abby Bausback and Brianna Stagge, won with a time of 2:08.06. The girls 400 free relay of Oesterling, Morgan Stagge, Bausback and Brianna Stagge, won with a time of 4:12.39.
Oesterling captured two wins. She took the 50-yard freestyle event in a time of 26.83 seconds and the 100 free in 59.21 seconds. Greensburg swept the first three places in the 50 free. Morgan Stagge was second in 29.32 and Duerstock was third in 32.34.
The girls 200 free relay of junior co-captain Megan McDole, Morgan Springmeyer, Kaleigh McGinn and Alli Duerstock, took second in 2:05.62.
Brianna Stagge was second in the 500 free in 6:08.73. Ashley Koontz was fourth in 7:03.29.
McDole recorded a pair of second-place finishes. She was runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:38.77. Koontz was third in 3:07.28. McDole was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:23.43. Springmeyer was fourth in the 100 breast in 1:35.43.
Bausback took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:12.50 and second in the backstroke in 1:10.80. Valeria Martinez was fourth in the 100 fly in 1:34.76.
Junior Kaleigh McGinn took second in the 1-meter diving to Erin Burbank, 172.80 to 126.60.
For the boys, the Pirates claimed two individual wins. Brady Niles won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.61, while Drew Reiger won the 500-yard freestyle in 6:01.25.
The boys 400 free relay team of captain Nick Oesterling, Andy Dashiell, senior Justin Starkey and Niles, was second in 3:51.99. The 200 medley relay of Oesterling, Todd Overmyer, Dashiell and Starkey was second in 1:57.93.
Kyle Howard won the boys 1-meter diving with a score of 100.75.
Pirates split against host Knights
In earlier action, the Pirate swimmers split against South Dearborn last Thursday. South Dearborn beat the Lady Pirates 100-80, while Greensburg’s boys beat the Knights 113-38.
Head coach Josh Hawkins was impressed with the boys 200-yard medley relay team of Oesterling, Niles, Dashiell and Starkey, who won with a time of 1:57.65.
“They swam fast,” he said. He also said Reiger swam “really well” in the 200-yard IM as he won in 2:32.86, a personal best. Reiger also won the 100 breast in 1:21.85.
Starkey won the 200 freestyle in 2:33.20, a PR.
Brady Niles won the 50 free (25.29) with a PR and also won the 100 fly with a PR of 1:11.92.
Starkey also won two events, including the 100 free.
Oesterling tallied a PR in the 500 free in 5:49.53.
The boys were victorious in the 200 free relay (Reiger, Andrew Schroeder, Spencer Kuehl, Dashiell) in 1:49.63, and the 400 free relay (Niles, Reiger, Starkey and Oesterling) in 3:51.
The girls won the 200 free relay (Brianna and Morgan Stagge, Bausback and Oesterling).
Hawkins said the girls medley relay bounced back, while the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay recorded wins.
Kaleigh McGinn (112.05) and Kyle Howard (96.30) each won the diving.
Megan McDole was second in the 200 free (2:26.39) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:18.91).
Next for the Aqua Pirates is a home meet against Columbus East Tuesday, and Greensburg senior Justin Starkey will swim in his final home meet Thursday against Southwestern Hanover.
