SDJH girls split on the road at Edinburgh

South Decatur’s junior high girls basketball teams traveled to Edinburgh and returned with a split with the young Lancers.

South won the seventh-grade contest by the score of 32-21.Rylie Buening led the Lady Cougars with 16 points and nine boards. Casey Evans, Ashley Hawkins and Elizabeth Nobbe all scored two points. Samantha Scranton added seven points and eight rebounds. Jesse Walls chipped in with three points.

In the eighth-grade match-up, the host Lancers edged South 42-38.

Ashley Lewellyn led South with a double-double—11 points and 11 rebounds. Kirsten Elliott tallied 15 points and eight boards. Ann Gilly scored four points. Ashleigh Ewing had three points. Taylor Nolting and Becky Hardebeck both scored two points and Shelbi Baker hit one free throw to round out the scoring for South.

South travels to Benjamin Rush Middle School in Rushville Monday.



GJH girls hoops

Greensburg’s eighth-grade girls “A” basketball team (2-4) was defeated by Jennings County 53-16.

Greensburg was led by Rebecca Horan with eight points, four rebounds, one steal and two blocks. Emily Springmeyer added four points, two rebounds and one steal. Becca Haler scored four points. Hannah Doerflinger had four rebounds and two steals. Tara Hartwell grabbed two rebounds, while Sammy Rivera and Danielle Keillor had one rebound each.

The seventh-grade girls “A” team (3-3) fell to Jennings County 29-17.

Brit Riley led the way with five points. Jennifer Redelman had another solid game on the boards with 12 rebounds. Sara Kramer tallied three points and five rebounds.

The “A” teams host Greenfield Tuesday.

The Lady Pirates eighth-grade “B” fell to Jennings County 36-23.

Coach Tamm was proud of his team for the effort in playing man-to-man defense the correct way and playing smart. The team continues to show improvement over the prior year and will continue to work hard every day to contribute to the Lady Pirates basketball program, according to Coach Tamm. Cyrstal Coblentz led the way with 13 points and five rebounds. Also scoring were Allie Abplanalp with four points, Sabrina McCullough with three points, Heather Dance with two points, and Breanne Bennett with one point. Allie Abplanalp pulled down 10 rebounds.

Jennings County won the seventh-grade “B” contest 40-3.

The young Lady Pirates met up with a big, experienced team and could not get the good shots they took to fall. According to Coach Andi McKee, every girl on the team made some improvements on the key areas she asked them to work on. Micheaela Bunting scored all three points for the Lady Pirates and pulled down five rebounds. Sara Treash grabbed nine boards. Kelly Scheidler had four rebounds.

“We are making improvements, small steps at a time even though the score may not reflect that,” said Coach McKee.
