Host Chargers win conference golf title

North Decatur was the host of the Mid-Hoosier Conference golf tournament on Saturday held at a wet North Branch Golf Course.

Despite the weather, the host Chargers took full advantage of the home course and won the team title by 21 strokes over second place Indian Creek.

North had a team total of 334. Indian Creek was second with 355. Triton Central led three teams separated by just two strokes as the Tigers had 376 for third followed by Morristown 377 and South Decatur 378. Waldron finished sixth with 385 followed by Edinburgh 387, Hauser 392 and Southwestern (Shelby) 402.

North swept the honors on the day—after taking the team title, the Chargers also had the meet medalist as Joseph Gauck carded a 79.

Joey Dwenger was next for North, and second overall, with 81. Josh Casuscelli carded 84. Those three Chargers were on the All-MHC squad for 2006.

North’s Kevin Lanter finished with 90 and Kyle Lanter rounded out the scoring for the Chargers with 93.

South Decatur was led by Chris Scheidler and Bryan McCullough—both carding 89.

Josh Ross finished with 97 for the Cougars. John Allen had a 103 and Derek Grimes finished with 106.

The All-MHC team included Gauck, Dwenger, Riley McGinsey from Triton Central, Cory Shafer from Morristown, Casuscelli, Matt Rogers from Indian Creek, Brady Winkler from Waldron, Tyler Burton from Edinburgh, Bryce Mize from Hauser and Curtis Cave from Indian Creek.

North returns to action at 4:30 p.m. today hosting East Central. The Cougars travel to Hauser on Thursday.
