Lawrenceburg — The Greensburg varsity wrestling team returned two conference champions Saturday and placed third overall in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference tournament at Lawrenceburg.

Junior Joel Chase and sophomore Nathan Hayes captured EIAC championships in their individual weight classes.

Lawrenceburg’s K.C. Hedger earned the meet’s Most Valuable Wrestler.

Joel Chase at 138 pounds defeated Collin Solomon 8-4 in the Championship Match, winning his second straight EIAC title.

Nathan Hayes, in his first season as a varsity wrestler, defeated Sean Caddell 11-7 in the finals.

“We’re very excited about him winning a conference title,” said Cochran.

Taking third place were freshman Brandon Butz, senior Justin Dance, junior Colten Black and junior Matt Scheumann.

Greensburg’s fourth-place finishers were Chaz Smiley, Jordan Smiley, Dakota Deiwert and Drew Neisius.

“We’re pleased that we finished in the top half of the conference,” said head coach Matt Cochran. “We haven’t done that in a while. Guys are wrestling well, and continuing to improve. We had a couple guys not do as well as they would have liked, but all-in-all, we had a pretty good day. We’re happy to see two champions.”

The Pirates will next compete in the sectional tournament Saturday at Jennings County.
