The South Decatur girls varsity basketball team fell to Hauser 55-49 Thursday night.
The Lady Cougars fell to 2-8 after losing a second-half lead, allowing Hauser to take a lead into the fourth quarter.
South (0-3 in Mid-Hoosier Conference) led 14-10 after the first eight minutes, but the Jets chipped away and narrowed the margin to 20-18 at the break.
The key third quarter saw Hauser enter the final eight minutes ahead 36-32. The Cougars matched Hauser nearly basket-for-basket, but were unable to reclaim momentum.
Leading South was junior Julia Miller with 14 points. Senior Samantha Miller scored 11 points, while sophomore Megan Niese followed with 10. Rounding out the scoring was junior Ashley Johannigman (9), Sydney Callahan (3) and junior Courtney Billingsley (2). Johannigman hit a pair of 3-pointers, while Niese added one.
South shot 22-for-31 (71 percent) from the foul line. Sam Miller shot 9-for-12, Julia Miller shot 8-for-10 and Niese shot 3-for-5.

Assists: Johannigman 5, Callahan 2.

Hauser is now 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the MHC.
Earlier in the week, South fell to hosting South Ripley 51-40 Tuesday.
The host Raiders jumped out big on South, leading 20-9 in the first quarter. South narrowed it to 24-17 at the half, but the Raiders took the edge in the final two quarters.
Julia Miller tallied her third 20-point game of the season with 20 points. Sam Miller followed with nine, while Megan Niese (8) and Ashley Johannigman (3) rounded out the scoring.
Julia Miller shot 4-for-4 from the foul line, leading South’s 7-for-10 effort.
