Pirate 8B boys split past two
The Greensburg 8B basketball team defeated the St. Bartholomew Fightin’ Irish 24-18 for its first win of the season. The Pirates scored the first basket of the game and led the rest of the way.
“This Greensburg team lost to this St. Bartholomew team last year, so it is great to see these guys improve year after year,” said head coach Justin Tucker. “I really was impressed with what I saw.”
Cory Adams and Zach Pokrzywinski led the team in scoring with 6 points each, while Jared Hasselbring added 4. Keaton Atchley, Dylan Barber, Tanner Carman, and Kirk Scott each gave the Pirates 2 points to add to the total. According to Coach Tucker, Thomas Stevens and Darian Davis provided excellent defense throughout the night.
In its second game of the season, the 8B boys fell to visiting St. Nicholas 34-30. After trailing 30-15 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Pirates fought back to make it a competitive ending.
“In each of our first two games, we have been down,” said coach Tucker. “It’s nice to see us have the ability to fight back the way we do.”
Cory Adams led the team in scoring with 13 points. Zach Pokrzywinski added 7 points, while point guard Keaton Atchley and Dylan Barber each chipped in four. James Scudder also scored one point. Barber also led the team in rebounds with 4.
Hauser edges North 8th boys

Hauser’s 9-2 lead after the first quarter proved to be the difference in the game. North outscored the Jets in the second and fourth quarters.

Pirate 7A boys fall to Central
The Greensburg 7A boys basketball team lost to Columbus Central 47-36. Central controlled the game from the start leading 27-15 at the half. Columbus then outscored the Pirates 18-2 in the third with a 44-17 margin. At that point, the Pirates could have quit, but continued to play hard and rallied with 19 point in the final period.
Luke Lozier lead all scorers with a season-high 24 points, followed by Cody Bischoff with 6. Kyle Sellers and Tucker Bailey each scored 3 points. Brayton Owens had a season-high six boards. Sellers had three assists and Tucker Bailey finished with two steals. The Pirates are now 3-3 on the season.
Pirate 7B boys fall by five
The Greensburg boys 7B basketball team fell to St. Nicholas at home, 22-17, in their second game of the season.
Although the Pirates trailed 13-2 after two quarters, a total team effort led to making the game much closer. Greensburg again had a tough night getting the rock to fall, shooting only 18 percent from the floor. Ten players scored for the Pirates, with Kevin Smith and Taylon Hogg tallying three points each, while Joshua Ankney had five rebounds. The boys are now 0-2 on the season.
