North Vernon —
In its first game of the season, the Greensburg Pirate boys eighth grade "B" basketball team came away with a loss at Jennings County 41-36. After being down 13 at one point, the Pirates pulled within four in the final minute.
"I loved that the players had the ability to come back from such a big deficit,” said head coach Justin Tucker. “It shows a lot about their character and that they will never give up."
According to Tucker, the players provided a great effort to start the season, although there are still several areas to improve.
Zach Pokrzywinski led the team in scoring with eight points, including four points in the final minute. Point guard Keaton Atchley, added seven points to the team's total, and also led the team in steals with four. Cory Adams and Dylan Barber both added six points, while Jared Hasselbring led the team with four rebounds.
"This team is at a good place to begin the season. I am excited to see what the future brings for these guys," Tucker added.
