Greensburg Daily News
The Greensburg 7A boys basketball team started the season with a 42-39 win over North Decatur's seventh grade team.
Both teams were evenly matched as North led 9-8 at the end of the first period. The Pirates rallied with 12 points in the second stanza to take the lead at the half 20-18. In the third, no team could gain any advantage as both the Chargers and the Pirates scored 10 points. Greensburg held a one-point lead in the final seconds as Kyle Sellers hit two big free throws to help secure the win.
Luke Lozier led all scorers with 20 points, including 14 in the first half. Tucker Bailey scored 10 points, followed by Nick Heil with 6, Kyle Sellers with four and Cody Bischoff with two.
Head coach Bob Barker said Lozier did a nice job on the boards with nine. Heil and Bischoff also grabbed three rebounds. Sellers, Bischoff and Bailey dished out two assists each, while Bailey led in steals with three.
Gus Gregory, Gabe Caplinger, Brayton Owens and Ty Hall did their part off the bench as this was a team victory.
North (0-2) was led in scoring by Cole Parmer with 13 points, Evan Smith with 12 points, and Sidney Ricke and Brandon Becker with seven points each.
“Turnovers hurt us,” said coach Mark Mohr. “Jake Hartman did a great job on defense against Lozier in the second half. We did a better job of attacking the rim on offense, but need to get better on defense as a team.”
North next visits Edinburgh tonight (Thursday).
