Greensburg —
The Daily News male athlete of the week is Greensburg senior wrestler Cody Black.
Greensburg senior Cody Black has emerged as a senior leader for the Pirate wrestling team, so much that he is one of just two seniors advancing to the regional tournament.
Head coach Matt Cochran described Black's value to the team.
Black improved his record to 18-5 on the season with two championship performances. He captured the EIAC title at 195 pounds Wednesday, then finished runner-up in the sectional tournament Saturday at Franklin County. He pinned Thomas Nuhring of East Central for the EIAC title, then went 2-1 in the sectionals.
According to head coach Matt Cochran, Black has been more and more impressive each week.
"It's a combination of how he's really wrestled all year," said Cochran. "It's outstanding. He suffered an early season injury that cost him some matches."
Black's wrestling was good enough to earn himself a berth in the Richmond Regional tournament Saturday, accompanying senior Dillen Swango and three underclassmen.
