Meyer visits North Decatur baseball camp

Greensburg — The North Decatur baseball program conducted its annual Holiday Camp from Dec. 28 through Dec. 30.

Players and coaches enjoyed a special guest on Dec. 29. Alex Meyer, Greensburg native and Washington Nationals first round draft choice, visited the camp and spoke to the boys about his baseball experiences.

Meyer shared how he played in Greensburg as a youth, as well as emphasizing the importance of working hard both as a player and as a student. He explained that he mainly played right field growing up, and did not start pitching seriously until around the age of 15.

"I went from 5-foot-10 inches in eighth grade to 6-foot-3 inches my freshman year," said Meyer. "Then my coaches wanted me to really start working on pitching, and I stuck with it."

Meyer was gracious enough to sign autographs and take pictures with the players, as well as answer questions from players and coaches Jeff Greiwe and Keith Knecht.

"The players were absolutely thrilled to have Alex speak to them today," commented Coach Greiwe. "His parents should be very proud, not because he is a Major League prospect, but because he's a terrific role model for these young ball players. We sincerely appreciate Alex taking the time to visit our camp and share his thoughts and talent with us. Not everyone in his position would do that."
