Decatur County sports digest announcements for Feb. 2

Greensburg — Posted below are the Decatur County sports digest announcements for Feb. 2.

Lady Cougar JH splits

The South Decatur girls junior high basketball teams split with Southwestern (Shelby).

The South eighth graders won 32-27. Brooke Helms led the way with 22 points, six rebounds, six steals and two assists.

More scoring for South:  Olivia Clarkson- 2 points; Sierra Deppe- 2 points and 4 rebounds; Delanie Diekhoff- 2 points and 13 rebounds; Mackenzie Kopplin- 2 points and 4 rebounds; Hannah Smith- 2 points.

The seventh graders fell 22-10.

Scorers for South:  Kinsey Sample- 3 points, Taylor Best- 3 points, Tymesha Young- 3 points, Zoey Nobbe- 1 point and 5 steals.



North girls JV tops Pirate C-Team

The North Decatur girls junior varsity basketball team played an extra game Thursday that the schools arranged before North’s varsity girls game against South.

North’s JV squad beat Greensburg’s C-team 42-18. The JV Lady Chargers jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter, and led 24-7 at halftime. The Lady Pirates outscored North 7-6 in the fourth quarter.

Eight different players scored for North. Morgan Nobbe led her team with 12 points. Alison Wallpe, Sam Krieger and Erin Yager each scored six, while Megan Hoover and Alison Weintraut scored four apiece. Laura Haunert and Morgan McKinney each chipped in two.

Maddie Hellmich led Greensburg with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Allie Geis scored five points, including 3-for-4 from the foul line. Mary Kate Porter shot 3-for-4 from the stripe, while Cara Zeigler shot 2-for-3.



Parks and Rec offers swimming

The Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department is offering open swimming at the Greensburg Community High School. The pool will be open, free of charge, on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. beginning on Sunday, Feb. 3, and continuing through Sunday, March 10. Non-swimmers under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
