The Greensburg girls junior high 7A basketball team took home the championship trophy in a tournament at Connersville on Saturday.
The Lady Pirates played Greenfield in their first game, winning 45-19. Scoring for the Pirates was Kyra Whitaker with 17 points, Ashlynn Meyer with 7, Sierra Johnson, Cameron Jones and Keirsten Lynette with 4 points each, Bailey Meyer with 3, and Ashley Bower, Kirstin Hersley and Gracie Maxwell with 2 points each.
In the championship game, the Lady Pirates defeated Shenandoah 52-9. Leading for the Pirates was Gracie Maxwell with 12 points, Ashlynn Meyer with 10 points, Kyra Whitaker with 8, Sierra Johnson and Keirsten Lynette with 7 points each, while Cameron Jones and Bailey Meyer added 4 points each. Great job, Lady Pirates!
In earlier action, the 7A girls opened the season with a 43-point victory over the Connersville Lady Spartans at home, winning by a final score of 52-9. Kyra Whitaker led all scorers with 20 points. Keirsten Lynette and Bailey Meyer each scored eight points. Cameron Jones and Sierra Johnson each scored seven, while Gracie Maxwell added two.
