Eighth Pirates Open With Win Over Connersville

Greensburg — The Greensburg Junior High School eighth grade volleyball team opened its season Monday night with a victory over Connersville in three games, 7-25, 25-17, 15-6.

Statistics:

Serving:  Jenna Schutte 15-for-16 with 3 aces and Megan Schmidt 11-for-11 with 4 aces.

Setting:  Team of Courtney Nelson, Emma Wolter, Megan Schmidt and Jenna Schutte 14-for-15 with 93 percent success rate.

Blocking:  Megan Schmidt and Jessica Banaschak with two each.

Passing:  Chelsea Hersley 14-for-20, Megan Schmidt 9-for-12.

Spiking:  Jessica Banaschak 5 with 3 kills, Allie Louder 3-for-3 with 1 kill.

Tipping:  Allie Louder and Jessica Banaschak with one each.

According to coach Sue Burkhardt, the win included a total team effort from members Tiffany Springmeyer, Abbey Denton, Olivia Slusher, Danielle Schroeder, Caroline Pratt, and Molly Oesterling.

The team will be home vs. St. Louis of Batesville on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m.
