Greensburg — Posted below are the Decatur County sports digest announcements for Feb. 9.

Pirate seventh girls sweep Jennings County

Both Greensburg girls seventh grade basketball teams defeated Jennings County Thursday.

The Greensburg 7A girls basketball team defeated Jennings County 40-22.

Scoring for the Pirates were Kyra Whitaker and Bailey Meyer with 12 points each.  Keirsten Lynette had 9 points and 5 rebounds.  Ashlynn Meyer had 3 points and 5 rebounds, while Sierra Johnson grabbed 5 rebounds down and scored 2 points. Cameron Jones chipped in 2 points.

The Lady Pirate 7B team beat Jennings County 31-27.

Greensburg’s leading scorer was Kirstin Hersley with 14 points. Ashley Bower- 8 points. Taylor Klene- 4. Gracie Maxwell- 3. Abby Scheumann- 2.



Jennings County girls beat 8th Pirates

The Greensburg girls eighth grade basketball teams fell to a pair of tough Jennings County teams Thursday night.

The 8A team fell to Jennings County 44-38. At one point, the Pirates trailed by 14 and were able to bring it to a 4-point game in the final minutes.

“This was the best game these ladies have played thus far,” said coach Amy McFall.

Sydney Meyer led her team with 16 points. Samantha Cain scored nine points, Claire Fleetwood added eight, Gabby Burton scored three and Michaela Myers chipped in two.

The 8B team also fell to Jennings Co. 47-2. Callie Black scored the only two points.

“The girls did not give up even though Jennings County was a great team,” said McFall.



Columbus Boomer tryouts offered

The Columbus Boomers will be having tryouts for their Spring girls AAU season. It will be at the Foundation For Youth on Feb. 26 and 27.

On Tuesday, Feb. 26, Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be from 5:30-7 p.m. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will be from 5:30-7 p.m., and grades 7 and 8 will be from 7-8:30 p.m.

Youth soccer signups open

Spring registrations are still open for the Decatur County Youth Soccer program.

Parks and Rec offers swimming

The Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department is offering open swimming at the Greensburg Community High School. The pool will be open, free of charge, on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. continuing through Sunday, March 10. Non-swimmers under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
