Greensburg —
Greensburg senior Tyler Burcham signed a letter of intent last Tuesday to play baseball for Parkland College.
Burcham, a three-sport athlete, will join a successful junior college organization after playing for a successful high school program.
Parkland College, located in Champaign, Ill., has won two national championships and owns a .770 winning percentage since the 2000 season. Burcham played infield and pitched this past spring.
Greensburg won a regional championship in 2012, posting a 27-2 record and a school-best .931 winning percentage while finishing third in the final coaches poll.
Burcham played in a week-long summer tournament for the Indiana NorthStars in Lafayette.
Burcham said Parkland head coach Matt Kennedy offered Burcham opportunities to play outfield.
Present at the signing were Burcham’s parents, Doug and Cindy, head coach Scott Holdsworth, assistant coach Lynn Welch, and junior varsity coach Aaron Pfeffenberger.
Doug Burcham expressed the family’s gratitude to Greensburg’s coaching staff afterward.
“We appreciate all the coaches, including Scott, Aaron, Lynn and Michael Manus,” said Doug Burcham. “They’re definitely a big help.”
