The Greensburg 8B boys basketball team competed in its annual tournament on Saturday at home, playing in two games. To advance to the championship, the Pirates defeated the Rushville Lions by a final score of 35-18, but in the championship, the Pirates lost to the Jennings County Panthers 33-27.
“Although we did not win the championship, overall, I would say this was a very successful season for these guys,” said head Coach Justin Tucker. “These guys continued to develop as basketball players, and played as a team all year.”
Against Rushville, James Scudder led the team in scoring with nine points. Cory Adams added eight, while Zach Pokrzywinski, Thomas Stevens, and Keaton Atchley gave the Pirates four each. Tanner Carman, Dylan Barber and Jared Hasselbring each added two.
Scudder led the team with double-digit rebounds with 16, as Stevens, Barber, and Kirk Scott added three each. Cory Adams also led the team in assists with three.
The Pirates concluded their season in the championship against Jennings County. Although the Pirates lost by six, they were down 17 points to begin the fourth quarter, even pulling within four points in the final minute.
“That effort just sums up our season. There were several times this season where it looked as if we did not have a chance, but these guys truly never gave up in any game we ever played,” Head Coach Justin Tucker stated.
Against Jennings County, Cory Adams led the team in scoring with 15 points. Zach Pokrzywinski gave the team six points, while Dylan Barber added four. James Scudder also added three points and Keaton Atchley added two.
Scudder led the team in rebounds with nine, as Kirk Scott, Tanner Carman, and Darian Davis each added two. Atchley led the team in assists with four, as Adams and Jared Hasslebring each added one.
Tucker concluded, “I have been so proud of these guys all season,” concluded Tucker. “They continued to amaze me with their effort in every game. I really hope to be watching all of these guys playing high school basketball in the near future.”
The Pirates finished their season with a record of 4-6. Tucker congratulated the Pirates on a "great season."
