16U Pirates Conclude Summer Softball Tournaments

Greensburg — The 16U Pirates softball team competed in the tournament in Greensburg last weekend, playing to a fourth-place finish by going 3-3. The Pirates outscored opponents 37-25.



Game 1:  Won 13-3 vs. Phillies. Scoring two runs apiece were Emily Springmeyer, Ashley Masavage, Clare Owens and Shelby Ward. Owens and Ward each knocked two hits. The Pirates hit .476 as a team.

Game 2:  Lost 8-3 vs. GFSA Nighthawks.

Game 3:  Lost 4-1 vs. OYO Red Storm.

Game 4:  Won 13-3 vs. Phillies. Posting two hits apiece were Springmeyer and Audrey Geis, while Geis, Clare Owens, Masavage and Taylor Wood scored twice each. The girls pounded out 12 hits (.571).

Game 5:  Won 5-1 vs. GFSA Nighthawks. Clare Owens scored twice as the Pirates scored five runs on just three hits.

Game 6:  Lost 6-2 vs. Madison County Bandits.



The team batted .348 overall (40-for-115). Each of the 12 girls recorded hits. Among the regulars, Clare Owens led the team in batting average (.545), hits (6) and runs (6). Nora Stacy batted .500 with five hits. Springmeyer hit .462 with six hits and five runs. Keri Deck followed with a .429 average. Geis hit .385 with six runs. Shelby Ward went 4-for-6 and Kelly Schiedler hit .308.
