Batesville —
The Greensburg varsity football team blanked the host Bulldogs 34-0 behind a power running attack and hard-hitting defense.
The Batesville football team failed to score for a second straight week.
The Pirates scored three times in the first half, including a late score that was set up by a blocked punt.
The first touchdown was a 38-yard run on fourth down. Junior quarterback Andy Meadows carried the ball over the right side into the Bulldog secondary, side-stepped one defender and scampered untouched the rest of the way.
The first of two scores in the second quarter was a 3-yard run by senior fullback Ryan Martin at the 2:50 mark. Senior Riley Billieu’s second extra point of the game made it 14-0.
Batesville’s offense struggled all night and the Pirates took advantage late in the half.
Pinned deep in their own territory, the Bulldogs were forced to punt with just over a minute left to play. Senior Brice Emsweller broke through the line and blocked the Dylan Cook punt. It was recovered on the 6-yard line.
Three plays later, Meadows scored his second touchdown. This one was from 2 yards out with 21 seconds on the clock.
The halftime ended with the Pirates in control, 20-0.
The offensive woes continued for the Bulldogs in the second half, but it was not the case for the Pirates. Kyle Moeller scored in the third quarter and Meadows added another touchdown in the fourth to put the game well out of reach.
The Pirates finished with 350 yards of offense, including 309 on the ground.
Defensively, Greensburg held the Bulldogs to 72 yards rushing and 96 passing.
Greensburg improves to 6-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-4.
