Kirchhoff extends school record in Civil War win

The North Decatur football team visited South Decatur Friday night in a rivalry game that ended in a cold, soupy mess.

Rain began to fall well before kickoff, and the down-pour in windy conditions prevented a shootout in a 13-0 North win on South's Senior Night.

North senior Jason Kirchhoff was recognized on his team's first possession of the game for becoming the school's all-time rushing leader. Kirchhoff, unofficially, ran for close to 220 yards Friday as North gained more than 300 yards on the night. According to head coach Garry Sauley, the fourth-year veteran broke the record against Indian Creek in Week 7.

In a game not conducive to the passing attack that both teams are accustomed to using, both teams Friday picked up the majority of yardage on the ground. Junior Brock Ricke gave North a 7-0 lead with 10:29 left in the first half. Ricke scored from the 1 on a keeper. He scored again in the fourth quarter to put the game away, breaking loose for a 49-yard touchdown run.

North held South to less than 100 total yards.

North improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while South is 3-5 (0-3). North hosts Greensburg next Friday to conclude the regular season, while South travels to conference rival Indian Creek.
