Greensburg Jr. High Achievement School giving back

Greensburg — If the recent trip to the Decatur County Animal Shelter and volunteering for the Head Start program are any indication of their efforts, the students at Greensburg Jr. High Achievement School will be doing quite a bit of giving back to the community during this school year.

One of the goals of the Achievement School is to teach students to be community-minded and know the importance of giving back to organizations that do so much for our city and county. The Decatur County Animal Shelter was a wonderful place to start. Without volunteers at the shelter, many dogs would not get the opportunity to get out, run and have one or one human interaction.

Students were given the opportunity to walk dogs and also to play with them in the fenced area at the facility located next to the Decatur County fairgrounds.

Also located at the Greensburg Learning Center, the Decatur County Head Start Program is a short walk across the hall from the Achievement School; students find it very convenient to volunteer. One such example was the recent visit to help students create Halloween masks and costumes.

The school is constantly looking for volunteer organizations that might be a good fit and flexible enough to allow the students to volunteer.
