Pirates awarded letter jackets

Greensburg — Sixty-four students at Greensburg Community High School were awarded letter jackets during a convocation last week.

Athletes and cheerleaders must at least be sophomores in class standing and must have earned varsity letters  in order to be eligible for a jacket.

Academic Team members qualify by acquiring 21 points through academic competition.

Jim Saler, president of First Federal Savings and Loan, addressed the honored guests and their fellow students.

He recalled his days as an athlete at GCHS and recognized his tennis coach, George Granholt, for being a positive influence in his life.

He emphasized the importance of learning self-discipline and being a team player. Saler noted that many of the lessons he learned in the athletic arena have served him well as an adult member of the community and in his career as a banker.

First Federal Savings and Loan, sponsors the letter jacket program at GCHS.

Angie Ballard, Athletic Department secretary introduced the jacket recipients, and each student was congratulated by Athletic Director Bill Edwards, Saler, and First Federal employees Diana Booker, Debbie Schultz, and Cathy Schwering.
