Greensburg —
In January, Melina ÒMelÓ Fox was nominated and accepted for membership into the Colonial Order of the Crown Society.
The Order gives recognition to men and women who are direct lineal descendants from the Emperor Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great, who was ruler of the Franks for 47 years (768-814 A.D.). Charlemagne served the last 14 years of his life as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
Son of Pepin the Short and grandson of Charles Martel, he was an outstanding warrior and a fine orator, remembered for his intelligence and generosity.
Charlemagne believed that the government should work to benefit those it was serving and was continually working for reforms that would improve the lives of the people. He set up money standards to encourage commerce, urged better farming methods, and worked to encourage and spread education.
Fox shared, ÒI am humbled and honored to be a member of the Order, which was instituted in 1890. This ancestral lineage of mine includes Barons Richard and Gilbert deClare who signed the Magna Charta (1215), King Robert the Bruce of Scotland and Captain Robert Bruce dePollock (Polk) who was the great-great Grandfather of US President James K. Polk. My ancestors were also among the first families to immigrate to the American colonies. As I grew up, my grandparents and parents instilled in me the importance of honoring their legacy with public service.Ó
In 2004, Fox was received as a member of the Society of Magna Charta Barons and Dames.
