Harvey Earl Borgman, age 89

Greensburg — Harvey Earl Borgman, age 89, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his home in Napoleon.

Born at home April 26, 1923, to Louis and Emma Elizabeth (Tressler) Borgman near Napoleon, Harvey married Frances Luchte November 4, 1950.

Harvey served in WWII with the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division as a Corporal in France, Belgium and Germany. Harvey worked for Straber Oil Company 43 years and became known as the ‘smiling oil man,’ always dedicated to his customers. After that, he worked part time for Aggregate Trucking and Excavating. He was a former member of the Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department and its past treasurer as well.

Harvey loved music and gardening, raising vegetables and fruits, and was always willing to share his bounty with family and friends.

He’s survived by his wife: Frances; daughters and their husbands: Patricia and Thomas Peetz, Batesville, Marilyn and Roger Horan, Greensburg, and Sheryl and Bill Ziegler, Columbus; grandchildren: Rick, Steven and Clair Peetz, Christina, Craig and Melissa Horan, and Brandon and Allison Ziegler; step-granddaughter: Nicole Lehr; and two great grandsons: Abraham and Aaron Peetz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m., March 6, 2013, with services immediately after, both at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Sr. Shirley Gerth will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, with military graveside services.
