Betty L. Elsner, 92

Greensburg — Betty L. Elsner, 92, of Greensburg passed away Nov. 27, 2012 at Aspen Place Health Center.

The daughter of Fred and Rebecca (Proctor) Wyman, Betty was born May 8, 1920 in Bradford, Ohio.

On April 11, 1944 Betty married Paul Elsner in Jennings County.

Paul preceded her in death Dec. 27, 2011.

Betty worked briefly as a young adult in a clothing factory in North Vernon.

The remainder of her life was spent making a home for her husband, children and grandchildren, helping out on the farm she and Paul owned, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, and sewing clothes for her children. She enjoyed crocheting and always had a soft spot for babies and small children. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg.

She is survived by her daughters Katherine Elsner of Springfield, IL, Rosie (Carl) Stier, Frances Elsner and Suzanne (Nick) Fasbinder, all of Greensburg; sons Joe Elsner of Greenfield, John (Vonda) Elsner and Jeffrey (Sandy) Elsner, both of Greensburg; son-in-law Whitie Wesseler of Greensburg; brother-in-law Oscar (Evelyn) Elsner and sister-in-law Helen (Delbert) Hausperger, both of North Vernon; 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Rita L. Wesseler, three grandchildren and three brothers.

After the death of their daughter Rita, Betty and Paul assisted their son-in-law in raising the five children of Rita and Whitie Wesseler. Eric, Scott and Mark Wesseler, Jeni (Steve) Niese and Jill (Carl) Wilmer became a special and treasured part of her family.

There will be a visitation for family and friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral home with a rosary service at 2:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, Fr. John Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in the form of a Mass, to the St. Mary’s Building Fund or Hospice of South Central Indiana.
