Patricia M. “Pat” Thornburg, 77

Patricia M. “Pat” Thornburg, 77 of Shelbyville, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Major Hospital.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1932 to parents William C. and Alma M. (Jeffries) Ruhlman. She was married to James R. “Pinky” Thornburg on Aug. 28, 1999. She was preceded in death by husband Charles W. Close in 1991. She is survived by: one daughter, Connie L. (Kirby) Ford of Shelbyville; three step-sons Alvin (Kathy) Thornburg of Dublin, Ohio, Danny (Elayne) Thornburg of Shelbyville, and Jamey Thornburg of Fishers; two step-daughters Diane (Dan) Baldwin of St. Paul, and Nancy (Brian) Hawkins of Jasper. Siblings include: sisters Clara Price of Shelbyville and Wilma Decker of Shelbyville; brothers Paul Ruhlman of Ashland, Ohio and Steve Ruhlman of Camden, Tenn. She is also survived by grandchild Todd Balting and great-grandchildren Michael, Sarah and Angel Balting. She also had eight step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pat loved to travel, spend time with her family and she enjoyed weekly trips to the casino.

She was self-employed with Thornburgs Pineapple Whip for more than 10 years, and had attended Shelbyville High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, operated the Shelbyville License Branch from 1966 to 1969 and was active in politics.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Services will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10. Burial will follow at the Union Chapel Cemetery in Decatur County with Rev. Chris Craig officiating. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church care of the funeral home.
