Alberta O. Coffey, 94, of Columbus, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at Parkside Court Assisted Living in Columbus.
She was born June 26, 1918 in Decatur County.
She was the daughter of Forrest L. and Hattie (Ponsler) Coffey.
She was a lifelong resident of Decatur County having moved to Columbus in June. She had graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1936. She was employed by Cummins Engine Company and retired in 1980 after 38 years of service.
She had attended the Alert United Methodist Church. She had a servant's heart and loved animals and was always willing to provide a home for strays.
She loved spending time with her family and particularly children and supported all children programs.
As a young adult, she was employed by Don and Nedra Cummins to assist in raising their children: Carol Ann, David, Jerry and Larry Cummins. She is survived by her sister, Georgia (Gerald) Dix of Columbus and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Edna Askren and Bessie Sparks; her brother, Charles Coffey.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at Bass and Gasper Funeral Home in Westport, Rev. Connie Barr officiating.
Burial will take place at the Westport Cemetery.
Friends and family may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Decatur County Animal Shelter.
