Leonard B. Schoettmer Sr., 86, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg.
He was born in Millhousen Dec. 3, 1926 to Joseph H. Schoettmer and Frances Elis (Thewes) Schoettmer Kuntz.
Leonard was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Wagon Train and Outriders Association, the Decatur County Aviation Association, and he was a former member of the Knights of St. John and Knights of Columbus in Greensburg, as well as the Adams Fire Department. Leonard was a former pilot and loved to fly his airplane.
He married Mary Joan Harpring Feb. 26, 1949, and she preceded him in death March 23, 2005.
Leonard is survived by five sons: Steven (Anita) Schoettmer, Greensburg, Stanley (Carol) Schoettmer, Greensburg, Leonard (Jere) Schoettmer, Jr., Greensburg, Charles (Margaret) Schoettmer, Greensburg, Patrick (Mary) Schoettmer, New Egypt, N.J.; two daughters, Joyce (Duane) Comer, Greensburg, Mary Ann (Rob) Smith, Greensburg; a brother, Robert (Kathryn) Schoettmer, Greensburg; two sisters, Dorothy Redelman, Greensburg, Lorina Krieger, Greensburg; 20 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Joseph Schoettmer; sister Marie Herbert and five brothers: Raymond, Alfred, Lawrence, Edward, and Anthony Schoettmer.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home Sunday, March 17, with a rosary service starting at 12:30 p.m.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Building Fund or the Greensburg Adult Center.
