Helen E. Barker, 89

Greensburg — Helen E. Barker, 89, of St. Paul, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at her residence.

She was born Aug. 1, 1923 in Shelbyville, the daughter of Ivan “Pete” Banister and Ruby (Taylor) Banister.

She married Walter D. Barker Nov. 25, 1945. He passed away July 30, 2006.

Helen was a 1941 graduate of Shelbyville High School. She was a homemaker, but while Walter was actively farming, she was always by his side, helping fill the planter, deliver seed corn and help with multiple other farm activities.

She was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and previously attended Adams United Methodist Church.

Helen was also a Decatur County 4-H Leader.

She is survived by a son, David (Karen) Barker of St. Paul; four daughters, Patricia (Joe) Toczek, Lafayette, Gloria (Dan) Thomas, Shelbyville, Susan (Mark) Smith, Crawfordsville, and Debra (Arthur) Anderson, of Clarkton, Mich; a brother, Rex Banister of Shelbyville; two sisters, Eva Ferguson of North Vernon and Edna Davidson of Seymour; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Rev. Mark Dodd officiating.

Burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery in Adams.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Glenn E. George Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church care of the funeral home.
